Do I need
a visa?
Students coming from
outside the European Community will need a visa to study in the United Kingdom.
Usually, you must apply for your visa at a British embassy or consulate in your
own country. Citizens of certain countries (non-visa nationals) are not required
to obtain a visa before coming to Britain
- they can apply when they arrive at the airport. However, they are not
guaranteed entry.The
entry clearance process for the United Kingdom is run by
UKvisas through the British diplomatic posts around the world.
In order to qualify for
a student visa you must show that you are enrolled in an educational
institution, and that you will be taking a full-time weekday course involving 15 hours
(or more) of organized daytime study per week. You must also be able to
show that you can support yourself while you are living in Britain.
Additional information
about visas may be obtained by contacting the British Consulate or High
Commission in your country. Alternatively, you can visit the
Home Office
on the net.
